Accessible Information Standard (AIS)
What is AIS?
The Accessible Information Standard makes sure patients get information they can understand and any support they need to communicate.
Who it helps
AIS supports people who are:
- Deaf or hard of hearing
- Blind or partially sighted
- Deafblind
- Living with dementia or other communication needs
- Using a different first language
What we will do
We follow five steps:
- Ask if you have communication or information needs
- Record your needs in your notes
- Alert staff so your needs are clear
- Share with other services if needed and with consent
- Act to meet those needs
Formats and support
We can provide information in large print, Easy Read, Braille, email or by phone.
We can also arrange interpreters if required.
