Temporary services

If you become ill while away from home, or if you are not currently registered with a GP but need to see one, you may receive emergency treatment from a local GP practice for up to 14 days.

After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This allows you to remain registered with your usual GP while receiving care locally.

After three months you will need to re-register as a temporary patient or register permanently with the practice.

To request temporary registration, contact the practice you wish to use. Practices are not required to accept temporary patients, but they must provide emergency treatment.

Please note that you cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice within the area where you are already registered.
