Greener Primary Care – Our Commitment to Sustainable Healthcare
Our climate commitment
The practice supports its respective professional bodies’ and/or the Welsh Government’s declaration of a climate emergency.
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of healthcare and supporting a sustainable NHS for current and future generations.
Greener Primary Care Wales
Sketty & Killay Surgeries are proud to be taking part in the Greener Primary Care Wales Green Wards Programme.
This national initiative supports GP practices across Wales to reduce waste, save energy and build a greener healthcare system.
Why this matters
Climate change is already affecting health in Wales, including extreme weather, flooding and increasing pressures on healthcare services.
Taking action now helps protect both our patients today and future generations.
What we are doing
- reducing energy use across our buildings
- improving recycling and reducing waste
- promoting digital services to reduce paper use
- encouraging sustainable travel where possible
- reviewing prescribing and clinical practices to reduce environmental impact
How you can help
Small changes can make a big difference:
- use online services where possible
- only order medications you need
- consider walking, cycling or public transport when attending appointments
- return unused medicines to your pharmacy for safe disposal
Health benefits of going green
- improved air quality
- better physical and mental health
